The New England Journal of Medicine is an English medical journal published by the Massachusetts Medical Society. It' s one of the oldest, continuously published, and most popular and widely read general medical journals in the world. The New England Journal of Medicine was founded in 1812 by Dr. John Collins Warren. Originally called The New England Journal of Medicine and Surgery as a quarterly, it later became a weekly journal named The Boston Medical and Surgical Journal. The current name was adopted 100 years later.
Not really a regional journal, the New England Journal of Medicine is an international medical journal devoted to all of medicine. It publishes original research papers, editorials, review articles, correspondences, case reports and a section called “Images in Clinical Medicine”. The areas or subjects the journal covers in each issue might include clinical research, internal medicine, molecular medicine and healthcare policy, reform and ethics as well as medical education.
The New England Journal of Medicine free online access to its research articles, six months after they have been published. The New England Journal of Medicine has two podcast as well, one that interviews doctors and researchers being published in the Journal and the other that summarizes each issue. Other things the journal is offering are continuing medical education, videos showing medical procedures and the weekly image challenge. The CME or continuing medical education program is specifically designed for primary care physicians wishing to advance their knowledge of clinical medicine for providing better patient care.
The New England Journal of Medicine is the largest paid circulation of a peer-reviewed scientific journal. It's published each week in English to health professionals in more than 120 countries and the publication are expected to be distribute to more countries. The website is continually updated with new articles for review by health care professionals.
