Baylor College of Medicine is a leading center for biomedical research and clinical care. It's located in the United States in Houston Texas. The 1,000 acre complex is the center for a 46 member institution making it one of the largest medical centers in the world. Baylor College of Medicine is affiliated with eight teaching hospitals, including the renowned Texas Children's Hospital, the MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Texas Heart Institute. Rated among the top 10 medical schools in the United Sates, Baylor College of Medicine is home of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
Originally formed in Dallas, Texas as the University of Dallas Medical Department in 1900, it joined with Baylor University in Waco Texas in 1903 and eventually moved to the Texas Medical Center in Houston in 1943. Every year around 172 medical students enter the college, with about 75% being residents of Texas. The average undergraduate GPA is 3.82 with an average MCAT score well over 34.5. The only private medical school in the southwest region, Baylor College of Medicine has the lowest tuition of all private medical schools in the United States.
Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences ranked 22nd for the best Ph.D program in 2007. Several of the individual departments of the graduate school also received Top Ten rankings by the NIH (National Institutes of Health). The graduate program enrolls 100 students each year with over half women and a third from foreign schools. The average GPA is 3.5
There are fourteen different PhD programs offered including Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Sciences, Developmental Biology as well as several others. There is also Biomedical research programs, Graduate program in Nurse Anesthesia, a Physician Assistant Program and Residency Training. Baylor College of Medicine is a leader in medical colleges in the United States.
